PAMENO.COM ANNOUNCES “LOCAL HEROES” CONTEST
LOS ANGELES, CA, May 13, 2010 -- Disaster preparedness and safety experts Pameno.com have announced a new contest designed to highlight the noblest attributes of human beings with the company’s new “Local Heroes” contest.
Dealing with disaster every day can be a macabre task. That’s why Pameno CEO Lev Stark looked to the Internet community to share stories about people they know of who touched them in some positive way.
“When I started Pameno, I wanted to help people, and hopefully save lives,” Stark said. “Often my staff, when they write about the worst case scenario, can get lost. It’s no fault of their own, they are just trying to make people aware of the dangers out there everyday, but I don’t want to lose sight of my mission to help people. That’s where the idea of Local Heroes comes from, to ask people to submit, in 400 words or less, stories about people they know of who define what it means to be a hero.
Zach Helke, VP Site Development and Content, says that his editorial staff understands that the definition of a hero is not the same for everyone, but he wants to give a place for as many voices to be heard as he can. For the story that stands out, however, he says that his company is willing to do what it can to reward the person who shares.
“The idea is that if the staff comes across a story that moves everyone,” he said, “they are going to check out the person being nominated and do their own research. If this leads to enough content to write a full feature, Lev has authorized us to reward the submitter with an Apple iPad.
Helke added that feedback from the community will make a difference as well.
“Certainly, if enough people think that a story holds the merit to be fully featured, I’m going to ask the editors to check it out closely. That’s why I invite people to read the stories, and to give us feedback. Leave comments, tell people if something really moves you. Lev wants to have something positive on the site, and I think it’s really a nice break for our writers to be able to interact in this way with out readers and do what they can to help encouraging and life-affirming stories be told.
