Earl, We Hardly Knew You

Hurricane Earl, now downgraded to a tropical storm, has drifted north into Canadian waters and is expect to fizzle out into the North Atlantic.

The Outer Banks of North Carolina got brushed hard with winds and rain, but the hurricane quickly lost strength as it moved north, bringing significant rain, but not much else. While many East Coast flights were cancelled or delayed, Labor Day was not ruined as many forecasted. Most businesses, even along the coast were re-opened

By the time the storm reached New York City, Earl had lost much of its steam, and residents hardly noticed. The storm continued to blow rain and wind up the coast into Nova Scotia.

Earl was not without its casualties, however. Two swimmers in New Jersey reportedly drowned in the rough seas, according to local media there.

There were no reports of any looting or other rioting related to the storm. Authorities were on full alert and expecting the worst, and Hurricane Earl turned out to be little more than a drill for most of the people living along the eastern seaboard of the United States. Hopefully, when the next ones comes, they will be ready.
