Northern Michigan may not be the first place people think of as a setting for wildfires, but authorities there have contained a fire yesterday that has been raging for nearly an entire week.

Nearly 14 square miles (some 8,500 acres) have been destroyed by the blaze, with nearly 70 building reported damaged or destroyed, according to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment (DNRE). No people were reported harmed in the fire.

The fire began in South Branch Township last Tuesday. DNRE reports that that Saturday rains greatly reduced the fire's intensity and permitted crews to bring in heavy equipment to contain the fire.
