Florida authorities declared a wildfire ignited last Sunday to be finally contained. The fire, which burned 300 acres of dry marsh and dead palmetto, began on Mother’s Day, around 3 pm local time, at the southwest corner of Indrio Road and US 1.

Authorities say the wildfire was driven by high winds and drier than normal conditions. No homes were threatened by the blaze, which was well contained by local fire departments and the Florida Division of Forestry.

Florida sees its worst and most frequent fires in April, May and June, which are considered the state’s “wet” season. Fires in this period are most often ignited by lightening.
