The ground beneath Yellowstone National Park has finally grown quiet. As Pameno reported previously, the Wyoming park has been experiencing multiple tremors for some time, in what earthquake researchers refer to as an earthquake swarm. While most of the tremors have been small, with less than a dozen exceeding magnitude 3, researches have logged over 1,800 tremors for nearly a month.
Mont. Robert Smith, a University of Utah professor of geophysics and coordinating scientist for the Yellowstone Volcano Observatory told AP that the swarm was the largest on record since 1985. Smith added that the quakes haven't completely stopped, but the activity has gone quiet enough that scientists are no longer filing daily reports.
