As more rain threatens a Southern California weary from floods and mudslides, headlines are appearing on the other side of the nation in North Carolina.
Flood warnings are in effect for Cumberland, Bladen and Robeson counties, as the Cape Fear and Lower Little Rivers have reached flood stage since early Monday morning. While local authorities expect the rivers to go drop back to normal, mudslides have been reported as well in North Carolina.
The Asheville Citizen-Times reported that some 40 people were taken back to their homes in all terrain vehicles this weekend to gather essential belongings before being ushered back to safety. A dozen homes in the Maggie Valley region were forcibly evacuated from recent rain and melting snow, and may need to stay away for weeks or longer until conditions become safe.
