A growing landslide ihas forced the evacuation of 80 families and the closure of several roads in the outskirts of San Antonio, Texas. Several of the homes in the Hills of Rivermist subdivision have already seen significant damage. Authorities say at least five of the homes will likely be destroyed by the landslide.
District Fire Chief Nim Kidd told local media that it was unclear if the area was safe, but the evacuations were a precaution as the ground continues to slip four inches an hour, with cracks opening in the ground as much as 15 feet deep. The builder of the subdivision, Cemtex Homes has so far provided lodging in nearby hotels for those forced to evacuate.
